If you want to help improve sendmail, here are some interesting topics:

libmilter: There are actually several chances for enhancement of libmilter:
- I/O activity: abstract out the use of select(2) to enable selection of other methods, e.g., poll(2), poll(7d) (Solaris), kqueue(2) (*BSD).
- Threading: instead of creating one thread for each connection, use a worker model and allow for a certain number of threads that are used to multiplex the work. This should enhance the performance on several OSs.

sendmail 8.11.0 is available (2000-07-19). It supports STARTTLS and the security layer in SMTP AUTH.

sendmail 8.10.2 is available (2000-06-07). This release provides a workaround for a Linux kernel bug in versions up to 2.2.15.

sendmail 8.10.1 available

sendmail 8.10.1 is available (2000-04-07). This release fixes an information leakage problem if sendmail is configured to perform SMTP AUTH as client as well as the AIX ld security problem.

sendmail 8.10.0 available

sendmail 8.10.0 is available (2000-03-07). I've listed some new features of sendmail 8.10, all the rest can be found in the RELEASE_NOTES. Despite the long beta test, two problems have been found after release.

sendmail 8.9.3 available

sendmail 8.9.3 is available (1999-02-04), The only major change since 8.9.2 is a fix for the headers denial of service attack posted to BugTraq. See the RELEASE_NOTES for changes since 8.9.2.
